New Educational CD Navigates Sustainable Building Basics
Timber Products and SierraPine offer free program to building trades
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The green building movement is an array of terms, regulations and products that can sometimes overwhelm even the most astute building professional.
That’s why Timber Products Company and SierraPine are
making available a new compact disc, Understanding the
Issues: Green Building & Wood Products, that provides
architects, woodworkers, distributors, designers and builders
with the basics of green building and an overview of the most
pressing topics associated with navigating the sustainable
product maze.
The CD program follows the same structure as the highly
regarded educational seminars the two panel producers have been
hosting across the country, and features information on:
· Forest Certification Programs
· LEED® and other Green Building Programs
· CARB and Formaldehyde Regulations
· New Products for Green Building
· Climate Change and the Wood Products Industry
· Web Resources
· China and the Environment
“We see a lot of confusion in the marketplace about what constitutes green building and what strategies companies can implement,” said Timber Products Vice President Roger Rutan. “This resource contains all the information we cover in our seminars and can help fill in the knowledge gaps.”
The CD is available free of charge and can be ordered by
calling 800-547-9520, ext. 227. Specific information on dates
and locations for upcoming seminars is available in the News
Room at www.GreenTproducts.com.
The next green building seminar will be held in Atlanta on Feb.
7, and future sessions are being planned for other major cities
across the United States. To date, Timber
Products and SierraPine have hosted events in Sacramento, Los
Angeles and Seattle.
Environmentally friendly products
Recently, Timber Products Company introduced its new GreenT™ line of hardwood plywood that is available with a special resin and several core options produced with 100 percent recycled wood fiber. To add to its green qualities, GreenT is produced from wood certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® program and the Forest Stewardship Council, or FSC.
“GreenT offers our customers a wide variety of innovative products that have been field tested for strength and durability and perform well in many applications,” said Rutan. “Our GreenT™ panels meet or exceed many of the requirements of America’s primary green building programs.”
Chris Leffel, vice president sales & marketing for SierraPine, added, “It’s nice to see that the 20 years of effort in leading the industry in the development of sustainable products is finally paying off, and, holding true to form, we’re excited about the new green products we’ll be introducing in 2008.”
Last year, SierraPine unveiled its new Encore™
sustainable design particleboard (SDP) panel that utilizes a
urea-formaldehyde-free adhesive system manufactured with 100
percent recycled wood fiber. Encore is designed to surpass
stringent emission standards and offers the highest physical
properties available on the market in a urea-formaldehyde-free
particleboard. Encore, aptly named, follows an impressive list
of sustainable products manufactured by SierraPine and
specified in hundreds of commercial, institutional and
conservator projects for nearly 20 years.
Along with Encore, the full sustainable product line by
SierraPine includes Arreis®, Medite® II, Medex® and
Medite® FR. These MDF products are made
with a formaldehyde-free adhesive system, 100 percent recycled
wood fiber, and are offered in panels or pre-primed, lineal
mouldings in over 500 different profile options.
