Ampine—the Timber Products flagship particle board mill in Sutter Creek, California—is known for its production of high-quality Ampine, Apex, and Encore composite particle board panels. The particle board manufactured here since 1972 is made with a formaldehyde-free (NAF) resin system and features excellent machinability.

The Timber Products’ Ampine manufacturing facility produces and ships over 500,000 square feet of wood product daily and features machinery that is capable of creating custom-sized panels, with lengths up to 24 feet. The raw material used to manufacture various types of particle board is sourced within a 125-mile radius of the mill in Sutter Creek—from post-consumer sources, to pine from sawmills and other nearby plywood plants.

How Our Products Are Made

Particle Board

Particle Board

The Sutter Creek facility has the capacity to produce up to 200 million board feet annually. At five feet wide and twenty-four feet long, our press is capable of a wide range of custom sizes. We use modified triple-pass dryers to exchange the moisture content between dry and wet wood for the ideal ratio of moisture content.

Two Acrowood DiamondRoll Screens were recently installed to improve the sorting of particle sizes. These new screens have reduced the plant’s electrical load and eliminated the need for outdated, redundant equipment.

Before the Encore and Apex panels go out to our customers, they go through a rigorous series of tests in our composite panel lab to ensure their quality is unmatched. Various characteristics of the composite panels are tested, such as their vertical density profile for strength tolerance, internal bond, elasticity, and more.
