Antimicrobial Panels – Prefinished Hardwood Plywood For Walls, Cabinets, Shelving & More

In late 2020, Timber Products reinvigorated the original RhinoCoat prefinished panel line by adding a new ingredient to its production process: an antimicrobial preservative. All prefinished panels sold by Timber Products will include the new and improved RhinoCoat with antimicrobial additive at no upcharge.

“We are thrilled to offer our RhinoCoat panels with antimicrobial technology to new and existing customers when there is an increased focus on clean, germ-free environments,” said Pat Lynch, Vice President of Sales at Timber Products. “RhinoCoat panels provide real value for our customers and their markets.”

The RhinoCoat antimicrobial panels inhibit the growth of microbes (like bacteria and fungus) that may cause discoloration, odor, degradation, decay and staining of the panels. Tests conducted for Timber Products show up to 99.929% of the microbial load was reduced by the antimicrobial preservative.

The new antimicrobial RhinoCoat uses the same UV curing technology to apply the preservative to the panels. UV curing technology remains one of the most environmentally conscious ways to finish a panel with no formaldehyde and no harmful volatile organic compounds. Timber Products RhinoCoat prefinish contains no harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and emits zero formaldehyde.

How can the RhinoCoat prefinished panels be utilized? By reducing the need for on-site spray finising and drying, RhinoCoat prefinished hardwood plywood panels can help you increase your throughput, reduce factory emissions, enhance quality and improve overall manufacturing efficiency by allowing finishing labor to focus on more critical areas of production.

RhinoCoat panels are suited for low-wear applications including interior shelving, cabinets, drawers, some furniture and additional low-wear applications. They can be manufactured to serve industries like residential housing, commercial offices and furniture manufactures.

It must be noted, however, that RhinoCoat antimicrobial panels do not protect users and others from germs, bacteria, viruses or other disease organisms. RhinoCoat panels should always be thoroughly cleaned before and after every use.

Currently, RhinoCoat is available in panel sizing is any up to 4’ x 10’ and thicknesses from 5/32” up to 1-1/2.” Any veneer specie Timber offers can be processed and available core options range from veneer core to particleboard core and beyond. The panels are also available as FSC certified.
