TP Trucking’s George Wood Receives Safety Professional of the Year Award

Oregon Trucking Associations (OTA) announced winners for this year’s Safety Awards during the 2019 Spring Safety Conference on April 18th at the Salem Convention Center, including Grand Champion - Terrain Tamers out of Dillard, OR. In addition, three members were recognized as Safety Professionals of the Year: George Wood with TP Trucking out of Central Point, OR (large fleet), Billy Dover with Leavitt’s Freight Service out of Springfield, OR (medium fleet), and Roni Shaw with Bowman Trucking out of La Grande, OR (small fleet).

Nominees are categorized by fleet type and size, and criteria ranges from effective implementation of safety programs in their workplace, safety record relative to miles traveled, participation in industry events promoting safety, and overall good representation of the industry. Terrain Tamers has been hauling wood by-products since 1987 and, with the help of Safety Director Christie Wuerst, has been making strides in improving their already outstanding safety efforts at their facility and on Oregon roads.

OTA's Safety Conference is over 25 years strong and is an opportunity for safety professionals in the trucking industry to learn about current trends and share best practices. Adam Williamson, OTA’s Director of Training and Development also announced the third year NW Fleet Safety Certification Program graduates, a year-long training program for professionals in the trucking industry who are dedicated to creating top-notch safety programs within their organizations.
