Timber Products is proud to have been involved in the Santa Clara Broncos’ basketball and volleyball court re-design. Sustainably sourced, white maple hardwood lumber from Michigan forms the foundation of an iconic new floor in the Leavey Center that reflects the school’s heritage.
We're thrilled that Joe Gonyea, III and Timber Products have stepped up to help us achieve this incredible opportunity of being the first university to have a beautiful building image on their basketball court.Renee Baumgartner, SCU Athletics Director
When Santa Clara University’s Department of Athletics decided to renovate their old basketball court surface, they hoped the new one would bring attention to the school during nationally-televised gameday broadcasts. This meant they needed something not only eye-catching, but encompassing of the Broncos’ rich history and new, classic logo. SCU Athletics Director Renee Baumgartner knew just the man for the job: Nike’s Vice President for Design and Special Projects, Tinker Hatfield. Timber Products also worked with this legendary designer in 2010 to create the University of Oregon’s “Kilkenny Floor” in the Matthew Knight Arena.
As one of the largest hardwood lumber gym floor suppliers in the country, Timber Products aided in bringing Hatfield’s vision — a photorealistic depiction of SCU’s Mission Church — to life. White maple hardwood lumber, certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and colored using a multi-layer paint and seal mixture, was selected as the perfect canvas on which to display this striking image.
